Horrible recreational accident on Sunday afternoon on the Innsbruck Nordkette. A paraglider crashed during a spectacular maneuver in the presence of several witnesses. All help came too late for the 30-year-old. He died at the scene of the accident from his serious injuries.
The accident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. The 30-year-old wanted to fly into the valley from Hafelekar with his “Speedglider” – but apparently not without spectacular, risky maneuvers!
“Double roll” didn’t work
“After takeoff, according to witness statements, he did a double roll. “As a result, he lost so much height that the second roller no longer worked and he ended up at full speed at the site of a steep gully,” the police reported Monday morning.
Three people who witnessed the crash immediately climbed to the victim and provided first aid until emergency services arrived. “The crew of the arriving emergency medical helicopter continued resuscitation measures, but these had to be stopped without success,” the investigators continued.
Body recovered by police helicopter
The injuries were too serious and the 30-year-old died at the scene of the accident. His body was recovered by a police helicopter.
