A sailboat suddenly caught fire at a mooring on Lake Neusiedler on Saturday around half past three at night. It is not yet known how the fire started. According to the fire brigade, an observant local resident became aware of the fire. 18 helpers had to be deployed – the operation was quite difficult.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire on Saturday evening. The Burgenland State Security Center (LSZ) announced this. The helpers were warned by an alert neighbor around 2:35 a.m. of a ‘suspected fire while celebrating’. When emergency services arrived, they found the sailboat completely on fire.
The site was difficult to access
According to the Neusiedl am See volunteer fire brigade, the site was difficult to reach. There was no usable walkway, so we had to approach from the street side.
The fire was extinguished using respiratory protection and thermal imaging cameras were also used for monitoring. ‘Fire out’ was the word shortly before four o’clock.
