The influx of refugees does not stop; Researchers in Upper Austria detect smuggling transports from traffic almost every day. But it’s just the tip of the iceberg; more than 90 percent of trips come through. If the refugees are arrested in Bavaria, they are rigorously sent back to Upper Austria.
Reports of ‘pushbacks’, i.e. illegal deportations to Upper Austria, right on the border with Bavaria, were already circulating. As is known, there are almost daily arrests of smuggling transports in Upper Austria, mostly filled with Kurdish Turks. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The Lower Bavarian police report that 600 migrants are arrested across the border every day. This means that barely ten percent are intercepted in Upper Austria – not to mention those who reach their destination in Germany unnoticed.
Only twelve percent of asylum applications are granted
Last year there were 22,824 registered unauthorized border crossings into Germany; asylum applications were accepted in only twelve percent; in recent months this figure has only been in the single digits. The vast majority of migrants are sent back to Austria, where they are released and ordered to leave. Since neither Italy nor Hungary is taking migrants back, only Germany and the Czech Republic are doing so.
