Local inspection – Twelve arrests on smuggling routes per hour

Date:

The police and army are once again constantly active at the border. There is no delay, as evidenced by a twelve-hour on-site inspection by “Krone” in the districts of Neusiedl am See and Oberpullendorf, the two hotspots of illegal migration movements.

“Concerned residents repeatedly raise the alarm via emergency calls because they encounter refugees wandering around their hometown,” the emergency services say. Officers and soldiers immediately investigate every report. ‘Asylum’ is the word they hear most often. This was confirmed immediately on site.

Friday, 3 p.m.: 42 refugees are crammed tightly together in a small truck that has passed the border crossing in Deutschkreutz. The two tractors drove past the checkpoint with the transporter and were arrested shortly afterwards. The smuggler duo runs away and escapes. The completely exhausted migrants, including four families, are taken in a bus to a first reception center.

Friday, 11 p.m.: Six refugees wander through the middle of St. Andrä. The police are called to care for the Afghans, Indians and Turks. “Please call us a taxi,” they say to “Krone” reporter Christian Schouder.

Saturday after midnight: In Halbturn, twelve refugees wander the streets, including one woman. Soldiers and police officers take over the care.

Saturday around 1am: In Mönchhof, not far away, six more refugees have to be accommodated. Her first words: “Asylum, asylum!” Research shows that all arrests in the area are probably related to one and the same smuggling operation.

Nearly 300 refugees in one day
The ‘crown’ was present at 66 arrests. A total of 132 refugees were registered in the Oberpullendorf district and 137 in the Neusiedl district on Friday. 14 reports come from the rest of Burgenland. A border guard: “On average there are twelve arrests per hour. How should this proceed?”
