A major operation took place in Großarl (Salzburg) on Saturday evening. A 56-year-old suffered an unspecified degree of injury to his legs when a base escaped. Emergency services did not know for a long time which toxic liquid it was.
The local resident may have kept the dangerous cleaning fluid in a bottle in his backpack. However, the base decomposed the container and parts of the backpack, damaged the pants and burned the 56-year-old’s legs. At first it was unclear which liquid it was.
The local man was taken to hospital
The area around the football field was cordoned off over a large area and the attacked and contaminated items were recovered in a protective atmosphere by the hazardous materials team of the Grossarl fire brigade. The 56-year-old was taken to the Salzburg State Hospital with injuries of an unknown nature.
In addition to the Floriani from Großarl, the volunteer fire brigade from Schwarzach was also present. After the accident scene was thoroughly cleaned, everything was finally released. Research is underway into the origin of the highly corrosive liquid.
