Spectacular car accident Monday afternoon in Brixen im Thale in the Tyrolean district of Kitzbühel: a 53-year-old resident crashed his mailbox into an ÖBB overhead line mast, prompting a large-scale operation. Train traffic in the area is disrupted.
The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m. when the postman (53) was driving on the B 170 Brixentalstraße: for unknown reasons, the man drove his car into oncoming traffic and then onto the parallel railway embankment. There the car crashed head-on into a high-voltage pylon.
The driver was injured and emergency services had to treat him at the scene. The emergency medical helicopter then flew him to the hospital in Kufstein.
Road and rail traffic was disrupted
The accident caused extensive damage to the ÖBB’s mast and overhead wires, forcing the closure of the road in the area. The police have set up a diversion. The recovery measures for the vehicle and the masts also led to disruptions in train traffic.
