Nighttime problems in Bregenz: A hotel in the city had to be evacuated on Sunday evening. A gas warning system went off. It was feared that dangerous carbon monoxide had escaped.
On Sunday at 8:45 p.m., a gas warning system went off in a hotel in Bregenz. 130 guests subsequently had to be evacuated. It was not clear at the time whether the leaked gas was dangerous carbon monoxide. The result was a large contingent of emergency teams.
However, further investigation of the situation revealed that the gas was not carbon monoxide, but simply carbon dioxide. This had probably escaped from gas bottles in the basement that were not properly closed. The guests all calmly accepted the evacuation. Mayor Michael Ritsch was also on site. But it wasn’t long before guests were able to return to their rooms.
