Fired because of mask – teacher: ‘I have to go begging next month’

Date:

Two years before her retirement, Miss Judit H. (63) was labeled as refusing to take action and she was fired. Now she gets no money at all, not even a minimum income.

28 years ago Judit H. started teaching at secondary schools in Liesing, including mathematics and physical education. But a few days before Christmas, their payments were halted. The 63-year-old now receives nothing but a Caritas voucher of 150 euros. But how did the ex-swimmer, who is a three-time European Masters champion, end up in this precarious situation?

Demonstrated ability of the physician to work
“I had traumatic polyp surgery when I was 16. If I now wear a mask, I have a panic attack, shortness of breath and fear of death within minutes,” H. explains in an interview with the “Krone” why she was first mask-free and later became ill for a long time. In December 2021, a medical officer gave her a brief examination and stated that she was fit to work, but when she failed to attend school for three days in a row, she was fired by email, which Ms H. appealed. pension was not an issue.

Excluded from all help
For the provisional pragmatic official, the appeal means she has been banned from all sources of supply for months and has had to cancel her life insurance. “They told me at the AMS that I was not entitled to transitional assistance because of my status. I also do not receive minimum income and emergency assistance. No one can tell me if I will ever see a penny in pension for the many years of service.”

Savings add up
For example, while the kindergarten teacher facing serious abuse allegations was transferred from MA 10, the education department chose the hard cut for Ms. H. “So far the savings have run out, but from next month or the month after I have to go begging” , says the mother of an adult daughter, who is still on sick leave from her GP. “I am not a denier of measures, as everyone assumes of me. I am mentally ill”, the educator does not know how to live in the future.

“I have always been a hardworking and helpful teacher that everyone could count on. Two years before my retirement I stand there vilified, nobody is responsible. And I am certainly not an isolated case,” explains Meidlingerin, why she is going to the stock market.

Three ongoing proceedings
The Education Directorate is keeping the case in the background but confirmed that there are three pending proceedings pending court decisions. Appeal procedure against dismissal and suspension of remuneration as well as request for a final pragmatization position. Result uncertain.
