NATO’s Military Committee called on Tuesday for an increase in weapons production in Warsaw. The chairman, Dutchman Rob Bauer, warned of declining supplies due to arms deliveries to Ukraine (see video above).
“We delivered from half-full or empty warehouses in Europe. Therefore, the end is now in sight. And the industry needs to increase production at a much faster pace,” Bauer explained at the meeting in the Polish capital.
Delivery times are currently 28 months
The background is that arms production has been stagnant for years, despite rising budgets. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg explained before the Military Committee deliberations that munitions factories can barely keep up with Ukraine’s consumption; delivery times are currently 28 months. NATO cannot continue this way.
Arms supplies to Ukraine are currently at risk in several countries. There is a risk of a lack of financial resources in the US, and Slovakia and Poland could reconsider their position.
