Without reason, history or warning, an 18-year-old with four previous convictions attacked a group of people at the city festival in Neusiedl am See and injured two people. Only millimeters were missing and a 17-year-old would have lost an eye.
Just the thought of taking a Feitel with you when you go to the city festival in Neusiedl am See is surprising. “A friend gave me this so I could defend myself if someone attacked me,” said the 18-year-old, who is appearing in court for the fifth time for assault.
“Do you see yourself as an alcoholic?” Birgit Falb, chairman of the youth jury court in Eisenstadt, wants to know. After a quiet ‘yes’ the boy starts talking. He drank half a bottle of whiskey and a jug of beer at the train station on August 5 before going to the city festival. Running out of money, he begged strangers for drinks. “One person gave me his vodka bottle and there were three sips left in it. It tasted extremely bitter, I assume there were benzos in it.” These synthetic drugs caused the film to fail. “I’ve been on the road for nine hours,” says the defendant, who claims he only recovered in the sobering cell. The 2.14 per mille had not yet disappeared.
A completely unprovoked attack
Without cause, background or warning, he charged at a 17-year-old he didn’t know at the city festival. With the knife in his fist, he stabbed in the face, wounding the teenager near the eye. The rioter narrowly missed his friend intervening. This did not apply to the mother, whose upper arm he cut.
The pre-trial detention remains in force
Because, according to the law, 2.14 per mille does not mean complete intoxication (= common sense), but the youth jury considers additional influence by drugs (= madness) possible due to the obvious senselessness of the attacks, an expert report is now being sought. Until then, the 18-year-old will remain in custody.
