Mitterrand vs. Macron – Biden promised himself again in his campaign speech

Date:

US President Joe Biden has once again uttered one of his infamous slips of the tongue. “Mitterrand from Germany – I mean France – looked at me (…),” he said in a campaign speech in Las Vegas on Sunday. In it he probably confused former President François Mitterrand with the current Emmanuel Macron. Mitterrand died in 1996.

In the speech, Biden referenced a 2021 G7 meeting he attended after his election. “America is back,” he said. “How long have you been back?” Macron is said to have asked. US President Joe Biden is 81 years old, and his age is an ongoing topic in the election campaign. The Democrat’s regular slips of the tongue and minor missteps at public events give opponents a lot of political room to attack.

Trump also confuses politicians
But former President Donald Trump, who is running again for the Republicans, also sometimes seems a bit confused. Most recently, the 77-year-old likely confused his rival Nikki Haley with Democrat Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the US House of Representatives. According to US media reports, the politician claimed that Haley was responsible for security during the attacks on US capital on January 6, 2021. But she did not hold any government position at the time.

Anyone who wants to become a presidential candidate in the US must first win in the parties’ internal primaries. Everything currently points to a duel between Biden and Trump, who competed against each other four years ago.
