Russian mercenary group Wagner has signed a contract with a Chinese company to purchase two observation satellites to gain reconnaissance capabilities. The contract between the Chinese company Yunze Technology Co. Ltd. and a company close to the mercenary group, dated November 2022 and could be viewed by news agency AFP.
The contract also includes the provision of high-quality images from other satellites by the Chinese space company CGST on order. The contract was concluded with the Russian company Nika-Frut, a branch of a company owned by mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, who died in August.
According to information from European security circles, some satellite images were used in preparation for the Wagner uprising against Russian President Vladimir Putin in June.
