Police have arrested three suspects two days after the deadly shooting at a popular shopping center in Bangkok. The men, aged between 22 and 45, are said to have sold the gun and ammunition to the 14-year-old gunman. The perpetrator is currently in a juvenile detention center.
As reported, the teenager opened fire on Tuesday at the ‘Siam Paragon’ shopping center in the center of the Thai capital, killing two women from China and Myanmar. Five other people were injured, some seriously. There is still no information about the teen’s motive. He was arrested on the spot.
He is currently in a juvenile detention center and is expected to be charged with murder. According to reports, the 14-year-old was treated for a mental illness and is now undergoing psychiatric evaluation.
Firearm purchased online
The Thai man is said to have bought the firearm online. Two days after the incident, the police announced that they had arrested three suspects between the ages of 22 and 45. They allegedly sold the gun and ammunition to the boy.
The incident shocked the kingdom shortly before the first anniversary of another horrific act of violence: on October 6, 2022, a former police officer killed 36 people, most of them children, at a daycare center in the northeast of the country. Gun violence is relatively common in Thailand. In 2021, approximately 7.2 million firearms would have been in private hands. Statistically, there was a firearm for every tenth person.
