The Slovenian Krško nuclear power plant will be closed preventively step by step after a leak in the primary system was discovered on Thursday evening, the STA news agency reported, citing a statement from the power plant operator. “The leak has no impact on employees, the population or the environment and is below the limit value,” the report said.
“To accurately determine the source of the leak and determine next steps to eliminate the leak, the power plant must be shut down,” the operator said. A controlled and gradual reduction in production will begin at 11 p.m., the report said. It is not yet known how long the nuclear power plant will be closed.
Global 2000 concerns
Global 2000 pointed out in a broadcast that there were already several problems with the reactor. “The leak in the primary circuit is the latest in a long series of incidents,” the organization said. What is needed now is a “full independent assessment of the system and the earthquake risk, without which restart is irresponsible.”
FPÖ Carinthia calls for permanent closure
The FPÖ Carinthia called in a broadcast for the permanent closure of the Krško nuclear power plant. According to the FPÖ, the “nuclear power plant on an earthquake line” is the “most dangerous threat to Central Europe”.
