Pop star Heintje recently shocked his fans by announcing his skin cancer diagnosis. What does this malignant disease mean for those affected? What are the differences between ‘white’ and ‘black’ skin cancer and what are the chances of cure? Krone+ delivers the facts.
Just like the Dutch pop singer Heintje, many people in Austria get skin cancer every year. The most dangerous form is malignant melanoma (black skin cancer). Nearly 2,000 Austrians receive this shocking diagnosis every year. Much more common, but often unnoticed, is “light or white skin cancer” (basal cell carcinoma and spinal cord cell carcinoma). The number of new cases here has risen rapidly. About 30,000 new cases are already registered in this country every year.
