In India, thieves stole 16 idols from a 300-year-old Hindu temple — and later brought back 14. The reason for the return: The thieves had nightmares after the theft last week, a police spokesman for the German News Agency said on Thursday.
A priest found the metal statues in a bag near his home six days after they disappeared in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Priests asked for forgiveness
Next to it was a handwritten note stating that the thieves were having nightmares, asking the priest to put the statues back in the temple and asking for forgiveness.
According to the temple officials, the statues are worth several hundred euros. Two gods are still missing, the police spokesman said. Four suspects have been detained for questioning.
