Transport refused – Puma “Pele”: arrival in Herberstein is delayed

Date:

Everything was already prepared for the noble predatory cat, the enclosure set up, the future partner is already waiting – but now the arrival of the puma “Pele” in the animal world of Herberstein, which was planned for Friday, has been postponed! Because: He steadfastly refused to climb into the transport box…

The puma’s fate also moved many Styria: the wild animal was picked up in Germany, pressed into a narrow wooden box and transported in a small car, which police officers noticed. “Pele”, as he was called, had been “ordered” from the Czech Republic via the Internet, had already made a long, certainly horrific journey and had a life as a pet in Germany ahead of him. Anything but species specific.

At the reptile shelter in Munich, he received medical care and regained health. Everything that had happened to him also caused him to exhibit behavioral problems.

All set for “Pele”
Fortunately, a solution was quickly found for a bright future for the noble predatory cat: in the animal world of Herberstein. “We have already prepared the stay perfectly for him, as well as a bitch who is already waiting for a new companion after the death of her partner,” says Karin Winkler of the popular excursion destination. As reported, “Pele” should have arrived there early Friday.

And Thursday afternoon the van was waiting for him. Unfortunately he had to leave without Puma. “Because ‘Pele’ sternly refused to climb into the transport box,” Winkler says. “Although we had trained with him beforehand, there were specialists on site.” It was eventually too late for sedation, as the transport vehicle also had other wild animals on board that were not expected to last that long.

The comfort patch has spikes
“Pele” will remain in Munich for the time being, when it will actually open in Eastern Styria is not yet known; soon it will be too hot to transport. The consolation for visitors has peaks and looks funny: On Friday, two porcupines land in Herberstein. And a South American capybara, from the Osnabrück zoo and sure to become a crowd favorite quickly! Opening hours: daily from 9am to 5pm.
