Video footage from Ukraine does not bode well – according to this information, Russia has already moved its “BMPT” tanks, often referred to as a “miracle weapon”, to the war zone. According to military experts, the vehicle known as the “Terminator” could play a key role in the further course of the conflict.
Several posts on social networks document the arrival of the “Terminator” in eastern Ukraine, as initially reported by “ntv”. Residents filmed a column of vehicles in the heavily disputed city Shevjerodonezk.
Panzer heavily damaged
The tank type must be able to take out enemy anti-tank squadrons to better protect your own tanks; an extremely sore point in the course of the war thus far, as there are numerous photos of destroyed Russian tanks circulating.
The deployment of the “BMPT” comes at a time when the Russian invasion of Ukraine severely damaged Putin’s main tank, the “T-90M” tank. Now the “Terminator”, Putin’s most modern combat vehicle, should reverse the trend.
Only small fleet in use?
According to the weapons company Uralvagonzavod, the combat device should be able to capture up to five targets at once – the 47-ton “BMPT” uses a huge double automatic cannon, four anti-tank missiles, two grenade launchers and a submachine gun. No fewer than five soldiers are needed for the operation.
So far, it is still unclear how many such tanks Russia has at all – according to the media, however, there should be only 20 to 30 copies. As a result, the series production originally planned for 2017 – presumably due to technical defects – failed.
Security expert surprised
In the relevant Telegram channels, Kremlin fans applaud the use of the “miracle weapon”, which was also proudly presented at the Russian military parades. But security experts are quite surprised: he expected the “Terminator” to be used much sooner, Canadian security expert Colby Badhwar explains via Twitter.
“Had these been deployed in Mariupol with experienced troops from the start, Russia might have had a chance to take the city,” Badhwar said. “Instead, they ignored all the lessons supposedly learned in Grozny and repeated the same mistakes.”
