Health Minister Gotzone Sagardui has denounced what she described as sabotage against an ambulance, as well as threats against companies and the distribution of videos inciting the use of violence during the strike.
This morning a fire broke out in an ambulance in Leioa (Bizkaia), coinciding with the start of the strike in the sector. According to sources from the Ertzaintza to eitb.eus, the event took place on the 00:44. Firefighters, local police and the Ertzaintza themselves intervened and the flames were extinguished around 2am. The causes of the fire are being investigated.
For her part, in an interview with Onda Vasca, the Minister of Health, she Gotzone Sagardui, has denounced what he described as sabotage against an ambulance at the Leioa base. “They broke the glass, they burned the cabin and the colleagues who were sitting there waiting for the need to provide the service had to put out the fire,” he explained.
Sagardui has referred to the start next Monday of the three days’ strike called by ELA, LSB-USO, LAB, UGT, CCOO and ESK in the medical transport of private ambulances to denounce the “blockade” in negotiations with employers.
Likewise, he has denounced that they have been ‘spreading’ since Sunday videos calling for violence by any violent means, whether against property or people.”
‘There are people in charge who receive hazards and I cannot understand that, because we are talking about an essential service that is provided so that people who have to go to a hospital center because they will receive treatment or a surgical intervention,” he emphasized, considering that “unthinkable” that the right to strike is defended in this way.
After declaring that these violent acts “must be reported”, he hopes that the unions “join this condemnation” because he does not believe they “can defend the use of any means for this purpose”.
As he noted: “There is a negotiating table, they are talking to the companies, we know how to reach an agreement and obviously the use of force cannot be a tool to reach an agreement.”
Sagardui, who has said he does not know where this anonymous video inciting violence during the demonstrations comes from, has explained that the companies brought it to the attention of the Ertzaintza, so the investigation will continue. He has insisted that “It is not understandable that in a society that calls itself democratic, in a society in which the right to strike is also guaranteed, these kinds of threats and these kinds of invitations to use any means for an end that belongs to them , continue to exist, because we We are talking about an essential service for citizens.”
Concerning the minimal servicesreminded the counselor that there is an order that is being implemented in Gipuzkoa and Álava, but not in Bizkaia, where the pickets this morning “prevented the departure of the ambulances scheduled for the services planned and established today as a result.” of the minimum services declaration”.
