The 69-year-old conspiracy theorist and anti-vaxxer gave a fiery speech from Philadelphia in which he declared his “independence from the Democratic Party and all other parties” and spoke of his “pain” at leaving his uncle and father’s party.
The scion of the Kennedy clan, who announced in April that he was running against Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination, scores an average of 15 percent among Democrats nationally. Other polls show that he is more popular with Republicans.
Analysts are divided over whether Kennedy’s candidacy as an independent would hurt Republicans or Democrats more.
Kennedys do not support candidacy
