They were both trapped: the fire brigade had to free an elderly couple from their car in Rainbach im Mühlkreis (Upper Austria) on Wednesday afternoon. He – 89 years old – was then taken to hospital by emergency helicopter, his 85-year-old wife in the ambulance. The two were seriously injured in an accident.
The couple traveled on the L1483 from Summerau towards Eibenstein around 11:30 am. The 89-year-old was behind the wheel, his wife next to him in the passenger seat.
Roll over the dike
For an unknown reason, the driver crossed into the oncoming lane and then into the adjacent pasture. The car rolled over an embankment back onto the road.
The couple became trapped in the accident and had to be freed by the fire brigade. Both were then taken to hospital with serious injuries.
