Complicated rescue operation: truck and trailer caught fire in Upper Austria

Date:

Suddenly, flames burst from the engine compartment: On the way to Bad Ischl, a fire suddenly broke out in a truck in Upper Austria. Attempts by the 59-year-old truck driver to control the fire with a hand fire extinguisher were in vain. Soon the entire team was on fire.

Shortly before five in the afternoon, a Serbian long-distance driver drove his truck on the B145 towards Bad Ischl. On a descent near Bad Goisern, the 59-year-old suddenly discovered that a fire had broken out in his engine compartment. He immediately parked the vehicle and, he said, attempted to extinguish the fire.

Soon the truck was completely on fire
However, this turned out to be in vain: the flames quickly spread to the entire trailer and soon the trailer was also on fire. Only the two alerted fire brigades in St. Agatha and Bad Goisern pumped away 600 liters of diesel and unloaded the trailer so that the “fire stop” could be initiated. Because the 59-year-old Serb complained of breathing difficulties, he was taken to hospital in Bad Ischl.

Extensive cleaning work
A special towing company was called in to rescue the badly damaged truck combination. The team was first separated by two trucks and then the tractor was lifted onto a low loader. The trailer was eventually removed from the scene by a tow truck. The B145 was completely closed until shortly after 7.30am.
