Three young people searched for victims on their e-scooters in Simmering. They circled pedestrians and threatened them with blank guns, knives and pruning shears. The trio will have to appear before a jury in the Vienna Regional Court on Thursday for aggravated robbery. What the young defendants regret most is that they were arrested.
Scenes of a crime committed by young people in Vienna: On October 7 around 11 p.m., three boys masked themselves with ski caps and scarves, grabbed a blank pistol, switchblades, pocket knives and pruning shears and got on three e-scooters. “We simply took people we saw,” said the first 18-year-old accused to try Daniela Forcedleidner.
A shot was also fired
They overtook the victims, circled them with the electric vehicles and threatened to kill them with their weapons. They stole money, a bank card, cigarettes, etc. – their first victim in Simmering was a young woman on her way home. The first defendant held the gun directly to her temple during the aggravated robbery. The others pointed knives and pruning shears at her. The 18-year-old also shot once in the air.
“Have you thought about what you did to this young woman? How scared must she have been? “You’re scared to death,” even the experienced juvenile judge is surprised by the brutality of the three perpetrators. Two of them are still minors. All three were born in Vienna, two have Turkish passports. The second defendant is Austrian, has lived in the federal capital for 17 years, but still speaks very poor German. He usually answers in monosyllables with a bored “yes.”
Police officer rammed and injured
“What would you have done with the money if you hadn’t been caught by the police?” asks Forceleitner. “Bought drugs,” is the answer. All three say they have been addicted to drugs for years. They also took ‘benzos’ in tablet form on the night of the crime. “Young people in Vienna are now heavily involved in drug abuse. They mix everything up,” says the lawyer of the first defendant. Who must also be held accountable for resistance to state authority and serious bodily harm. When police caught the e-scooter gang, he raced his scooter towards a police officer, ramming him and injuring him.
“The pre-trial detention was a healing shock for my client,” said lawyer Roland Friis, who represents the third defendant, a 17-year-old who attended the trial in a black suit. He imposes the lowest sentence of 17 months, partly conditional.
“Isn’t that poor?”
Mrs. Rat does not believe the remorse of his accomplices. “We thought it would work,” the boys said, mostly annoyed by the fact that they were caught. “Isn’t that poor?” asks Forceleitner. The suspect looks down. The 16-year-old at the time of the crime was sentenced to 18 months in prison, six months of which were suspended. The alleged main perpetrator must spend two years in prison. Not legally binding.
