Major operation early Thursday afternoon in Linz. A truck and a tram collided on Wiener Straße. The impact shattered the set’s windows. Ten people had to be admitted to hospitals in Linz for treatment.
A large contingent of emergency services – including the Red Cross, the Samaritan Workers’ Association, the police and the fire brigade of Linz AG – quickly arrived on the scene to treat the injured. According to initial information, fifteen people were injured in the collision. Ten of them had to be taken to hospitals for more detailed clarification.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the truck driver’s disregard of the red light system could be a possible cause. The truck driver probably collided with the tram in the front part and subsequently damaged the entire long side.
The accident caused significant traffic delays. Linz Linien responded immediately to the incident and set up a replacement rail service so passengers could continue their journey despite the disruption.
