Two girls from Garmisch-Partenkirchen came to a clinic because of an internet challenge with a sharp chip. They took part in the ‘Hot Chip Challenge’ circulating on social media, in which participants each eat a tortilla chip. According to the manufacturer, this is said to be the sharpest chip in the world.
The 13- and 14-year-old girls bought the chips from a vending machine and ate them on Friday, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.

They then developed acute breathing problems and were taken to a clinic. They must remain there primarily for intramural monitoring. The police are investigating suspicions of physical injury due to negligence.
The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) warned against such tests of courage in September. “In some cases, consumption has already led to medical emergency calls,” the BfR said regarding the “Hot Chip Challenge.”
