Largest amount: police arrest king of counterfeit money (20).

Date:

A 20-year-old from Mühlviertel (Upper Austria) already had a lot of criminal energy and creativity. The boy started a flourishing trade in counterfeit money. He earned more than 600,000 euros. Never before has such a large amount of counterfeit money been discovered in Upper Austria.

Ultimately, the 20-year-old from the Urfahr-Raum district encountered customs at home. Officials removed a suspicious piece of mail from circulation in June. The contents: 307 counterfeit banknotes of 20 euros each – face value 6140 euros. “The seized money was checked by the Federal Criminal Police Office and it turned out that it was undoubtedly counterfeit money,” the Upper Austria State Police Directorate announced on Saturday.

Successful house search
The recipient of the mail, the 20-year-old in question, quickly became the target of the Urfahr District Police Command. The suspect’s apartment was investigated together with IT experts on June 17. And they quickly found what they were looking for: during the house search

  • counterfeit 10 euro notes worth 30,710 euros
  • counterfeit 20 euro notes worth 76,080 euros
  • counterfeit 50 euro notes worth 184,400 euros
  • Counterfeit 100 euro notes worth 19,800 euros were found and seized.

The perpetrator admitted
The young man soon realized the hopelessness of the situation and handed out more banknotes. In total, BPK Urfahr-Raum investigators were able to seize counterfeit banknotes with a denomination of 365,970 euros. Not only that, several electronic data processing equipment and paraphernalia for counterfeiting credit cards and ATMs were seized. Apparently the suspect is also involved in other forms of fraud on the internet.

Bought counterfeit money online
The suspect bought the counterfeit money via the internet. He then sold it to countless people inside and outside the EU through various online stores he ran. “Thanks to the meticulous criminal investigation against the 20-year-old suspect, it was conclusively proven that he bought, sold and possessed counterfeit money with a face value of more than 600,000 euros,” the police said.

This is probably the second largest counterfeit operation or the largest seizure of counterfeit money ever carried out in Austria.
