The mountain rescue and fire brigades had to deal with an extremely demanding operation in impassable terrain on Saturday in St. Lorenzen ob Eibiswald: a farmer and his wife fell down a steep slope into the forest with an agricultural loader. The driver was flown to hospital with serious injuries.
On Saturday around 5:30 p.m., a farmer in St. Lorenzen ob Eibiswald and his wife entered the forest with an agricultural loader. Due to the sodden and boggy earth, the 58-year-old lost control of the vehicle and the agricultural loader fell about ten meters down a steep slope. A tree stopped the fall.
Mountain rescue had to help
Rescue in impassable terrain became a major challenge for the emergency services. First, firefighters ensured that the agricultural loader did not slip any further. The seriously injured driver received initial care from mountain rescuers and the Red Cross and then had to be taken to the intermediate landing site by a rescue helicopter using a rope.
After medical first aid, the farmer was flown to LKH Graz with serious injuries. Police said his wife was unharmed.
