Cemeteries are full: – Bodies in Gaza are stored in ice cream trucks

Date:

The bodies are piling up in the Gaza Strip. Because there is not enough space in cemeteries and transport to hospitals is often too risky, Palestinians killed by Israeli airstrikes are now being held in trucks otherwise used to transport and refrigerate ice. Meanwhile, new videos and images have emerged online showing just how brutal the Hamas militias were last weekend.

“The hospital mortuary can only hold ten bodies, so we use ice coolers from the ice factory to store the huge number of martyrs,” said Doctor Jasser Ali from a hospital in Deir Al-Bala.

The used trucks are further used to transport the ice cream to the supermarkets. They keep showing ads on the sides – smiling children enjoying their ice cream.

Blood-stained children’s rooms
Meanwhile, videos and images that have recently emerged online show just how brutal the Hamas militias were last weekend. There are blood-stained children’s rooms on display, as well as the storming of kibbutzim occupied by families.

1,300 killed in Hamas attack a week ago
Following a surprise attack by Hamas on Israel that left around 1,300 dead a week ago, the situation in the region is currently deteriorating. Israel completely closed off the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and concentrated its army on the border.

A ground offensive from Israel is expected
A large-scale ground offensive by Israel in the Gaza Strip is expected. About 2.3 million Palestinians live there and the region is one of the most densely populated places in the world.

According to authorities in the Gaza Strip, Israeli airstrikes killed more than 2,450 people, a quarter of whom were children. Since October 7, 9,200 people have been injured. Hospitals do not have the necessary equipment.

Mass graves are being prepared
Even with the ice cream trucks, it’s not enough, Ali added. Some bodies are also kept in tents. “The Gaza Strip is in crisis and if the war continues, we will not be able to bury the dead. The cemeteries are already full and we need new ones to bury the dead.” In Gaza City, authorities are preparing mass graves, the government spokesman said.
