According to British military experts, Russia has recently avoided unpopular mass recruitment for the war in Ukraine, partly thanks to the recruitment of mercenaries.
This is evident from the daily intelligence report of the Ministry of Defense in London on the war in Ukraine.
In particular, the Redut private army, which is behind the recruitment of volunteers and has included former Wagner mercenaries in its ranks, consists of 7,000 men, according to information from Monday.
Private armies strengthen regular units
Redut has been involved in fighting in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kiev and Luhansk regions since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022. However, it is just one of many private military and volunteer units used by the Russian Ministry of Defense to reinforce regular units.
Russians launch new offensive in eastern Ukraine
The Russian army has been carrying out a new major offensive in eastern Ukraine since Thursday. Apparently the Russians want to conquer the strategically important city of Avdiivka. For this purpose, Russia has deployed more than 100 tanks, armored personnel carriers and trucks.
However, the first attempt at a lightning offensive failed. Some Russian tanks drove into minefields or were destroyed by Ukrainian artillery (see video above).
