EU foreign ministers are meeting in Luxembourg to tackle the crisis in Venezuela again and will reaffirm their position not to recognize Maduro as the democratically elected president.
The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albareswill discuss, together with its colleagues from the European Union, the “unacceptable” situation of the two Basques, residents of Bilbao, imprisoned in Venezuela and accused of being part of a terrorist operation against the regime of Nicolás Maduro.
Albares will convey this matter during a ministers meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Office in Luxembourg, where they will discuss the issue crisis in Venezuela and will reaffirm their position on this matter They do not recognize Maduro as the elected president democratically elected because they did not have access to the minutes of the July 28 elections.
“We are going to see how we can promote the democratic will of the Venezuelans who expressed it freely on July 28, because it is always a solution that must be Venezuelan (…) it cannot be imposed from outside and it must of course also be peaceful the minister said in statements to the press upon his arrival at the meeting.
And he added: “I am going to raise again the unacceptable situation of our two citizens who are currently being unjustly detained in Venezuela.”
The two Basques were arrested in Venezuela in September, accused of being part of a United States-led operation to kill Nicolás Maduro, who has identified them as “terrorists” and assured that they are linked to the National Intelligence Center (CNI) of the United States. Spain.
The Spanish government has denied that Spain is involved in a political destabilization operation in Venezuela and that the two detainees are part of the CNI.
