As reported, a bloody knife attack took place in Wilhelmsburg (St. Pölten district) on Thursday evening. A 47-year-old Turkish man allegedly attacked two men aged 29 and 39 with a kitchen knife.
The suspect is now in pre-trial detention until October 29. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the reason for his arrest was the risk of committing a crime. Attempted murder and bodily harm are being investigated.
Risk of committing a crime
One of the two victims was attacked on the street, the other in a store. The 29-year-old was seriously injured by a stab wound in the abdomen and had to be taken by emergency helicopter to the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital. He immediately underwent emergency surgery. The 39-year-old was transported to St. Pölten University Hospital with minor injuries.
The suspect, also Turkish, drove away in a car before emergency services arrived. He was subsequently stopped and arrested in Rotheau in the municipality of Eschenau in his home district of Lilienfeld. The investigation into the motive and background of the attack continued on Monday.
