Problems at gas stations on the first day

Date:

Computer systems are unable to cope with demand, which has led to queues in some branches.

The 20 cents per liter of fuel cut agreed by the Spanish government and the National Road Transport Committee came into effect on Friday, April 1, and will be in effect until June 30, although it may be extended.

For example, problems have been reported at gas stations due to strong user demand and vehicle queues have developed.

From the company Repsol, they explained that they have had: issues across the Spanish state in the face of the avalanche of customers who have flocked to its gas stations in the early hours of this Friday.

“What is happening is an accumulation of operations. It is true that the systems are slowing down before the recorded peak, but these incidents were somewhat punctual,” the company explained to the Efe agency.

In addition, some gas stations have had to close their doors because they could not access the computer system to register payments and apply the discount.

From midnight, and for the next three months, gas stations must apply a reduction of at least 20 cents per liter on their fuel to all their customers, at the behest of the Spanish government, which has taken this measure to try to minimize the effect of the rising energy costs in the pockets of citizens and businesses.

Since the war in Ukraine started on February 24, the price of diesel in the Spanish state as a whole has risen by about 25% and gasoline has become more expensive by about 14%.
