In the future, all young people will receive the Austrian climate ticket for free before their 18th birthday. An annual budget of 120 million euros is budgeted for this.
From 2024, young people in Austria must receive the climate ticket, which is valid throughout Austria, on their 18th birthday. You can then use public transport for free for a year. The government has planned this in the new budget.
The aim is to encourage even more people to use public transport. From their 18th birthday, young adults have three years to claim the free climate ticket. An annual budget of 120 million euros is budgeted for this.
1095 euros is the normal price
The climate card is an annual card for almost all public transport in Austria. This means that passengers travel throughout Austria for three euros per day – a total of 1095 euros per year. Travelers up to 25 years old and over 65 years old and people with disabilities pay 821 euros.
Currently, approximately 245,000 people have an Austrian climate ticket. Regional climate tickets are also available.
