Russia on Wednesday urged a partial withdrawal from the international agreement banning nuclear weapons tests. During a sermon in Moscow, Patriarch Kirill I immediately praised the Russian atomic bomb as “divine providence.”
Russia’s State Duma voted on Wednesday in favor of a new bill that would reverse Russia’s ratification of the treaty banning nuclear weapons testing. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced a plan in this direction on the grounds that the US had not ratified the so-called 1996 Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which bans all nuclear weapons tests. By 2023, 187 countries had joined the agreement.
Allegation: The US has not ratified the agreements
The head of the Russian parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, criticized on Tuesday that Russia should have the same options as the second major nuclear power, the US. After all, the United States can test nuclear weapons at any time. Russia waited twenty years for Washington to ratify the agreement. Now Moscow must restore the strategic balance and do everything to protect its citizens.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill I, praised nuclear weapons during a ceremony. The ceremony was dedicated to Russian physicist and leading nuclear weapons developer Radi Ikayev, who received a medal.
“Free” and “independent” Russia „damp“ Nuclear bomb
“Without Kurchatov (Igor Kurchatov developed the Soviet atomic bomb, note) and the work of Radi Ilkayev, our country would probably not exist at all,” the Patriarch said. The creation of the weapon was God’s providence. “Thanks to this power, Russia remained free and independent. We should all forever remember this achievement of the scientists who saved the country.” Part of the ceremony was published by the Telegram channel “Ostorozhno, novosti”.
The Russian Church supports the war in Ukraine
The Russian Orthodox Church is part of the Kremlin’s propaganda machine and supports the brutal war of aggression in Ukraine. In June, Russia’s ecclesiastical court dismissed a priest for criticizing the war. The court labeled him an “imagined pseudo-pacifist” and noted that pacifism was incompatible with actual religious doctrine.
Even Pope Francis should be ‘instructed’.
Patriarch Kirill I has long justified the bloody Russian attack on the neighboring country and repeatedly calls on the clergy and believers to pray for Putin’s health.
Pope Francis complained that during a conversation with him, the patriarch spent 20 minutes reading arguments from a piece of paper intended to justify Russia’s war of aggression. Later, the Russian Orthodox Church published a speech by the patriarch in which he addressed the Pope and told how long it would take for the missiles to reach Moscow.
