On Friday evening, the city center of Vaduz in Liechtenstein was declared a restricted area for hours due to a bomb threat. Now the police have arrested a suspect. This is a Lithuanian citizen.
As reported, the Liechtenstein State Police received a call on Friday evening. On the other end of the line, a man explained in English that an explosive device would be detonated in the center of Vaduz in about 30 minutes as a sign of support for Palestine.
He ended the conversation with “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.” Police then cordoned off a large area of Vaduz and after hours of searching, permission was finally given.
More and more clues came
After an intensive investigation, which also involved Interpol Vaduz, the police managed to identify the caller on Monday afternoon. As more and more indications emerged that the man was still in the principality, a manhunt was launched – and the suspect was actually arrested during an identity check around 11 p.m.
This concerns a 39-year-old Lithuanian who briefly lived in Liechtenstein in 2020 – at the time he had already attracted negative attention from the authorities due to arson. The motive for the crime is still under investigation.
