Capital goods and energy are some of the sectors that have increased industrial production in the Basque Country. The industrial production index shows an increase of 13.9% in Álava, 11.4% in Bizkaia and 6.9% in Gipuzkoa.

The production of the Basque industry grew by 7.9% in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2021, thanks to the realized increase in investment goods (14.6% more) and energy (13.5%).
The Basque Statistical Institute (Eustat) has reported that in the month of June alone, industrial production in the Basque Country grew by 10.1% year-on-year. Compared to the previous month, May 2022, industry activity increased by 0.5%.
All major Basque industrial sectors performed positively compared to June last year. that of the Energythat includes the production and supply of electricity and oil refining, increased by 24.5%, and equipment goodswhich includes motor vehicle manufacturing, locomotive and railway construction, and aerospace and shipbuilding, increased by 17.5%.
Concerning the intermediate goodswhich includes activities in metallurgy and the manufacture of metal products, the chemical industry and the manufacture of rubber and plastic products, increased by 4.2%.
The consumer goodsmeanwhile, grew 1.8% year-on-year, thanks to a 4.3% increase in consumer non-durable goods – food processing and canning activities, the production of cleaning and hygiene products, as well as clothing production – since consumer durables – manufacture of furniture and household appliances – decreased by 7.6%.
Among the sectors with the most weight in the Basque industry, they mainly grew means of transport (27%), the electricity, gas and steam (23.5%) and machinery and equipment (14.6%). By contrast, the lowest increase was in the food, beverage and tobacco industry (2.2%).
By province, the annual evolution in June of the industrial production index was positive for the three of the CAV: in Alava there was an increase of 13.9%in Biscay from 11.4% and in Gipuzkoa from 6.9%.
