Tragic accident: railway engineer (45) hit by train and killed

Date:

A tragic industrial accident overshadowed the renovation work along the Franz Josef Railway in Lower Austria: On Sunday evening, a mechanic was hit and killed by a train in the Klosterneuburg area. Apparently, he had ignored the warning signal.

Why the 45-year-old German was on the track at that exact moment is still being investigated. According to information from the state police headquarters, he probably ignored a warning signal for approaching trains around 10 p.m. When the set thundered through the construction site in the cadastral municipality of Höflein, the man was still in the danger zone.

The man died from his injuries
The worker, who was carrying out renovation work on behalf of a company along the Franz Josef railway line, was hit by the train. “He succumbed to his fatal injuries at the scene of the accident,” the director said. The responsible labour inspectorate was called in to investigate.

Not the first incident
A month ago, a serious accident occurred during construction work on the track. At that time, an excavator driver had parked his construction machine so badly next to the track that an approaching train collided with the shovel and derailed it. The damage to the track is enormous and will probably not be repaired until September. By then, a replacement rail service had been set up.

Employee burned himself in the company
Meanwhile, the police have filed another report of an industrial accident. In Grimmenstein, in the Neunkirchen district, a 31-year-old man was working with a pressure cooker. According to the report, she tried to open the tap without first releasing the pressure. This caused the valve to be torn from its anchorage and boiling water flowed over the woman’s body. She was flown to the AKH in Vienna with second-degree burns.
