After Mayor Johann Bauer’s (ÖVP) freak-out video became known, he immediately resigned. His departure before the end of November was announced on Tuesday.
After the fuss over video recordings, Schrattenberg’s mayor Johann Bauer (ÖVP) announced his immediate resignation.
The local politician had previously announced his departure at the end of November, which provoked criticism from the FPÖ. “Someone who exhibits such scandalous behavior cannot be mayor for another day and must resign immediately,” FPÖ Secretary General Michael Schnedlitz said on Tuesday.
The clip caused a stir and discussions on social networks. The local politician can be seen insulting a resident.
In the resignation letter, Bauer also renounces his municipal council mandate with effect from (today) Wednesday.
Bauer has been mayor of the municipality in the Weinviertel, which has approximately 850 inhabitants, since 2010. The ÖVP holds 13 of the 15 mandates in the municipal council.
