Owning your own home has now become a luxury item in Vorarlberg. Sociologist, trend and futurologist Christiane Varga is critical of this development, but certainly has ideas about how the costs for one’s own four walls can be kept within limits.
“Kron”: Ms Varga, what meaning do you still attach to property today?
Christiane Varga: This was, among other things, the subject of my presentation last week during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Vorarlberg Owners’ Association in Feldkirch. In fact, property already existed in early historical times, for example in the form of grave goods. Jewelry or weapons were placed in graves. This shows that ownership is about individuality and perhaps even identity.
