Massive police action on Saturday afternoon at Vienna’s Naschmarkt! It was shortly before 6pm when shocked witnesses raised the alarm. They saw a man walking past Linke Wienzeile with what appeared to be a long gun.
More than just a threatening image, especially in times of increased terrorism. That’s why the police arrived with a large contingent. Within a short time the man was arrested and “disarmed”. Fortunately, the gun was just a deceptively real toy gun, as the state police explained to the “Krone.”
Provocation or just plain stupidity?
The man is a 36-year-old Afghan. It is still unclear what he wanted to achieve with his action; the interrogation protocol is not yet available.
