Well-known Graz doctor Berndt Urlesberger died of carbon monoxide poisoning while on holiday in Trieste on New Year’s Eve. But where did the toxic gas leak from? The Public Prosecution Service is now investigating this question.
On New Year’s Eve, dramatic scenes unfolded in an apartment building in Trieste: Carbon monoxide had escaped for an unknown reason – with fatal consequences for the former head of Graz neonatology, Berndt Urlesberger. His wife was also in critical condition and was taken to hospital along with other residents.
Now the background to the tragic incident must be clarified. The Trieste Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into negligent homicide and ordered an autopsy on the 63-year-old. A technical inspection by an expert should also be carried out on site, according to the Italian newspaper “Il Piccolo”.
