At least six schools in Germany received bomb threats on Monday. Classes were canceled for hundreds of students at the beginning of this week. A bomb threat was also made against ZDF in Mainz.
Schools in the Bavarian cities of Augsburg and Regensburg, Karlsruhe and Mannheim, Solingen and in the Thuringian capital Erfurt were affected. Unlike most schools, the ZDF television channel quickly gave the all-clear.
Police with a large contingent
During lunch the background was still unclear. The police were deployed with a large contingent in the affected schools. Some schools were searched with sniffer dogs and students were evacuated or not allowed onto school grounds at all. No suspicious objects were found, said a spokeswoman for the police in Solingen.
According to the police, the threat was received by email in Erfurt. This was also the case in Regensburg and Augsburg, authorities said. In Augsburg, however, the all-clear was given around noon. The threat situation at a school in Solingen was reported to the police by those responsible for the school, the report said.
600 people had to stop working
At ZDF, several buildings on the site in the Lerchenberg district were evacuated due to the bomb threat, including the building for broadcasting operations and the high-rise building housing the station’s administration.
In total, around 600 station employees who had to leave their jobs were able to return to their jobs after the approval was given.
