The streets seem deserted – because of the war there are hardly any tourists in the Old City of Jerusalem

Date:

Tourists have been staying away from one of the world’s most popular travel destinations since Hamas’ deadly attack on Israel on October 7, in which dozens of foreigners were kidnapped or killed (see video above).

The hilly and otherwise busy streets of Jerusalem’s Old City are deserted. The reason: after the devastating attack two weeks ago, bookings were canceled and pilgrims and holidaymakers fled the Mediterranean country.

The streets of the city are deserted
The normally busy streets of Jerusalem’s Old City, one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, are deserted. Religious pilgrims have populated the tourist district in the east of the city for centuries. But now they have disappeared, the streets are deserted, shopkeepers and tour guides have virtually lost their business overnight.

Last weekend the Israeli army published a current casualty report after two weeks of war. The attacks by Hamas terrorists resulted in more than 1,400 deaths and more than 4,600 people were injured, according to a message on X (formerly Twitter). More than 200 hostages are in the hands of Hamas.

6,900 rockets fired at Israel
The army has now counted more than 6,900 rockets fired from the Gaza Strip, of which more than 450 were fired within the Gaza Strip. According to the army, dozens of Hamas leaders were eliminated and more than a thousand Hamas terrorists – including on Israeli territory – were neutralized (this usually means killed, mind you).

Israel imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip after the Hamas attacks and has been bombing targets there ever since. At least 4,137 people were killed in the attacks, according to the latest information from the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip. The information cannot be independently verified.
