According to the Guinness World Records, the oldest dog in the world is dead. The Rafeiro dog named Bobi was 31 years old and spent his last moments at his home in the Portuguese village of Conqueiros.
He “made a lot of people happy, especially his family,” his owner Leonel Costa said Monday. Bobi was only declared the oldest dog in the world in February. The animal was exactly 30 years and 266 days old at the time (see video above).
Rafeiro dogs typically live twelve to fourteen years, which is already a long life expectancy for dogs. According to his owner, the fact that Bobi has aged considerably is mainly due to the animal’s loving home situation. He lived among cats in a small village. Bobi was exactly 31 years and 165 days old.
