A former police officer in Wales blackmailed intimate recordings of more than 200 girls for years. To do this, he pretended to be a teenager. A court sentenced the 24-year-old to life imprisonment on Wednesday; he actually has to spend a minimum of twelve years in prison.
The convicted man, who joined the police force in early 2021, posed on Snapchat as a teenager and won the trust of the girls involved. He then pressured her, demanding intimate photos and using them to blackmail her for more photos and videos.
Known of 160 cases
In total, the man has now admitted to 160 counts of child sexual abuse and blackmail at a Cardiff court (between November 2020 and February 2023). Images of 207 girls between the ages of ten and sixteen were found on his mobile devices.
Lost confidence in police
The judge emphasized that many girls still suffer from psychological problems as a result of the crimes. Many are afraid to trust police, she said. The 24-year-old was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday, although he will actually have to spend twelve years behind bars. The former police officer was not present when the verdict was announced.
