British star chef Jamie Oliver protested in London on Friday against advertising for fast food and discounts on sweets. Children’s health must come first. About 100 people supported his protest in front of the government seat at 10 Downing Street.
It rained heavily as protesters in London put up signs calling for ‘Child Health First’. According to the British star chef, the government’s anti-obesity strategy should no longer be postponed. Prime Minister Boris Johnson must keep his promise to stop promoting fast food.
During the campaign, 46-year-old Oliver brought the dessert “Eton Mess”, a creation made from strawberries and whipped cream. The British upper class especially likes to eat this and, according to Oliver, it was invented at the elite school Eton, where the prime minister went to school.
The British government originally wanted to ban discount campaigns and television advertising for unhealthy food from October. Because food prices have risen, the project has been postponed for a year. An exception is retail giant Tesco, which still plans to end candy discounts from October.
