A terrible accident occurred at a gas station near the A8 Haag am Hausruck exit on Thursday afternoon. A German (45) of Romanian descent was killed when a jack suddenly collapsed and the man was trapped under the bus.
The man from Bavaria apparently wanted to transport an old low-floor bus to his former home. A vehicle defect may have developed while driving on the Innkreis highway. The German drove to the gas station and called a friend. He brought him tools and a jack to repair the damage.
Failed resuscitation
While the 45-year-old was lying under the bus, the jack, which was actually only approved for a car, suddenly sank and the vehicle crushed the man in the chest area. Police officers noticed the accident and immediately set the rescue chain in motion. Together with another 15 to 20 people, an attempt was made to lift the back of the bus to free the trapped person. With no suitable equipment available, attempts were made to lift the articulated bus using combined muscle power until a jack specifically designed for heavy transport was purchased.
The injured person was eventually freed with the help of a provided car jack. Two rescue teams and an emergency medical team tried to revive him. Unfortunately, their attempts were unsuccessful.
