Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is once again on a collision course with the European Union and has spoken out against an EU proposal for another 50 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine. His Slovak colleague Robert Fico also shares his opinion.
“The proposal before us will not work. That is why we will reject this proposal for the time being and see what we achieve in December,” Orbán announced.
Fico also expressed reservations about providing financial support to Kiev, citing corruption. “We will only focus on humanitarian aid,” the Slovak head of government said from Brussels.
The US announces a $150 million package
While the EU continues to face a debate, the US government is providing Ukraine with a new military aid package worth $150 million, or about 142 million euros.
The package includes AIM-9 missiles for an air defense system, Stinger missiles and ammunition for multiple Himars-type rocket launchers, the US government announced on Thursday. At the same time, the Pentagon called on Congress to approve new funding to support Ukraine.
