Now smugglers in rigid trucks cross the border at two border crossings almost simultaneously. The “Krone” knows how a transport gets through.
Illegal migration has long generated more profit than drug trafficking or prostitution. At the Austro-Hungarian border alone, the smuggling mafia currently turns over no less than a million euros every day. Most refugees transported from Serbia to the West have to pay 4,000 euros per head to the smuggling gangs. Lots of money with 250 arrests per day in Burgenland alone!
The perpetrators are now resorting to new tricks to get their ‘customers’ to their destination. Around noon, a smuggler with about ten migrants broke through the border in Mogersdorf (Jennersdorf district) when soldiers wanted to check the box truck. Alarm! After a brief escape, the Mercedes stopped in the middle of the city and the driver and passengers ran away. All patrol cars in the region were on their way to pick up the migrants and arrest the Bulgarian driver.
The police had their hands full. Meanwhile, just a few kilometers from Mogersdorf, almost exactly the same dramatic scenes were taking place. Two tractors broke through the border in neighboring Neumarkt an der Raab. These transports – probably with even more refugees in the hold – were unstoppable and remained untraceable. “The border violations took place almost at the same time. “They were probably planned well in advance,” says an insider. It is feared that the smuggling mafia will use this method more often in the future.
