In front of St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna – monument destroyed: suspects investigated

Date:

The act of vandalism at the monument to Lisa-Maria Kellermayr, which had been massively threatened by vaccine opponents, caused a stir. As reported, an unknown woman had knocked over candles set up in front of St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna and trampled flowers. Investigations by the Vienna police into the case were successful.

As reported, the act of destruction was captured on video. The footage shows the woman purposefully approaching the monument and then destroying it before escaping.

The monument was created during a solidarity gathering of the sea of light in front of the cathedral after the death of the Upper Austrian doctor. The event was initiated by Daniel Landau, who, immediately after the act of vandalism became known, placed new candles and removed the traces of destruction on the spot.

The police have now launched an investigation. As was said on Twitter on Tuesday morning, this led to success: the suspect had been investigated and reported, according to the Vienna management.

Information campaign for victims of online hate
A large-scale information campaign has now been launched by the Ministry of Justice. People who have been victims of violence or hatred on the internet are informed about the possibility of free psychosocial and legal process support – which has been used rather grudgingly so far. The issue of punishing hate online is also a hot topic at the moment. While the ÖVP is in favor of establishing its own special public prosecutor’s office, Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens) and other parties reject this.
